A video showing supporters of UDA Kericho gubernatorial aspirant Erick Mutai contributing money at his rally has gone viral after it defied the tides of the traditional political mannerisms in Kenya.

The video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, showed a number of supporters handing notes to the aspirant who was campaigning atop of his political campaign vehicle.

Mutai was forced to ask a member of his campaign team to fetch a bag as notes began streaming in from the crowd that decided to conduct an impromptu fundraiser ahead of the UDA nominations.

The aspirant has hitherto been a little-known lecturer but has gained attention due to his popularity - giving former Devolution CS Charles Keter a run for his money.

The crowd chanted Mutai's name before breaking into a song. Sources intimated that the crowd decided to fund his campaign trail across the county by fueling his campaign vehicles and paying his team.

Mutai, who was taken aback by the humbling gesture, expressed his gratitude to the fans amid tears of joy. He echoed his sentiments in a public comment on his social media platforms.

"The great People of Litein turned up in large numbers to welcome and engage us this evening. I was truly humbled and blessed by the hustlers who spontaneously fundraised to finance my campaign," he stated.

The viral video has sent shock waves owing to its orthodox nature - normally, it would be the aspirant dishing out money to supporters during political campaigns. Most Kenyans argued that it should be adopted across the country.

Kenyans.co.ke established that Erick Kipkoech Mutai is a literature and communications lecturer at the Embu University. A holder of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), he tossed himself in the political ring to succeed outgoing Kericho County governor, Paul Chepkwony.

Mutai will square it out against Keter, Deputy Governor Lily Ng'ok and Fred Kirui for the UDA ticket in the upcoming nominations.

The 38-year-old lecturer has established himself as a force to reckon with, causing ripples in the murky waters of Kericho County politics. Deputy President William Ruto's party will be put to test in yet another county that is one of his strongholds.

So far UDA has reached a consensus on the Kiambu senatorial seat. Under the Kenya Kwanza coalition of parties, Senator Johnson Sakaja, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru and Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga have been settled on as candidates for Nairobi governor. senator and Woman Representative seats.
