Nairobi Senator, Johnson Sakaja, has addressed concerns over his participation in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party nominations.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Thursday, April 14, Sakaja's communication team confirmed that the Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant was a member of UDA and hence his involvement.

The Senator's participation in the UDA party primaries raised concerns from a section of Kenyans who assumed that he was a member of Musalia Mudavadi's Amani National Congress (ANC).

Additionally, Kenyans.co.ke discovered that the Senator never joined ANC after leaving the Jubilee Party. Sakaja's team explained that he was just a close ally of Mudavadi.

"Sakaja has never joined ANC at any given point. Those were just speculations that were made because he was working closely with Mudavadi and was among the people who saw the coming together of Kenya Kwanza.

"You even saw the Senator being named as the UDA candidate for the gubernatorial seat after Bishop Margaret Wanjiru dropped her bid," Sakaja's aide stated.

Sakaja was seen as a close ally of Mudavadi prior to the formation of the Kenya Kwanza alliance. He occasionally accompanied Mudavadi on the campaign trail and drummed support for his presidency.

During a presser on January 9, Sakaja hinted that he would only join Deputy President William Ruto's team if Mudavadi decided to partner with the DP.

"I trust the leadership of Musalia Mudavadi, and if he has seen it fit to team up with whichever leader, I will go with him.

"I am not a fair-weather friend, that I am supporting him only if he stands alone. Of course, that will be my ideal situation, but I will trust his judgment and choice," he stated at the time.

UDA nominations began on April 14 and are being conducted in 36 counties.
