Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang'i, has announced an increase in roadblocks and police activities during the electioneering period.
Speaking to security agents on Thursday, April 14, Matiang'i noted that the security checks would also be heightened in all airports, malls, places of worship, as well as entertainment joints.
The CS pointed out that the move is aimed at curbing chaos influenced by unscrupulous politicians. In addition, the police officers, both uniformed and in civilian clothing, would be deployed to various parts of the country.
"Politicians are increasingly becoming desperate, especially when they realise the odds are stacked against them. Some of them can do anything during this period, but stand firm for the sake of our country," Matiang'i told the security officials during the meeting.
The Interior CS also flagged off 515 vehicles for county administrators in a bid to enhance movement during the heated campaign season.
Besides combating security threats, the vehicles will be used in bringing perpetrators of gender-based violence to book.
The leased vehicles include 170 double cab pickups to be used by Deputy County Commissioners.
The lease program for the locally assembled vehicles, according to Matiang'i, is part of the government's efforts to uplift local businesses and increase employment opportunities.
Further, 10,000 motorcycles would be handed to chiefs and their assistants to ease mobility. The CS added that over 12,000 chiefs had been trained extensively for the upcoming General Election.
Kenyans will have to bear with the new development and also cope with the new increased fuel prices that are set to push up the cost of living.
Matiang'i had recently announced that the government is vigilant during the Easter season in order to ensure all Kenyans are safe.
