Uganda's President, Yoweri Museveni's son, Lieutenant-General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has criticised Kenyans for the backlash he received after revealing that he made a phone call to President Uhuru Kenyatta in the morning.

In a post on his Twitter account on Monday, April 18, Muhoozi disclosed that he had phoned Kenya's Head of State expressing his hopes that Uhuru will attend his birthday party slated for April 24.

He expressed his admiration for Uhuru referring to him as a big brother even as he posted a picture of them taken during his past visit to Kenya.

"Spoke to my beloved big brother, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, this morning. I love him very much, I will always be on his side! I hope he attends the birthday party," he tweeted.

After his post, a section of social media users took a swipe at him. Some online users stated that Kenya has serious challenges which needed Uhuru's attention

"I think he (Uhuru) is too busy planning for his country and prices of basic commodities like a leader should do and not attending birthdays," Mwanje Isma replied.

Consequently, he defended his close ties with President Uhuru Kenyatta, stating that Kenya and Uganda shared close blood ties.

He claimed that Kenya's first President, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta was born to the family of a Ugandan King, Omukama Kabalega.

In 2013, Uganda's new outlet New Vision reported that King Kabalega spent time in Kenya while being deported to Seychelles for resisting British rule.

"Hahaha! I can see some Kenyan haters angry because I love my big brother. You will be well. H.E. Uhuru is my real big brother. According to legends, his grandfather was Omukama Kabalega. One of our greatest kings. Uganda and Kenya are linked by blood relations," he stated.

Uhuru and Museveni's son have enjoyed a cordial relationship during his tenure and have been pictured touring different parts of the country.

The two were spotted in Naivasha inspecting the Inland Container Depot on January 12.
