The late President Mwai Kibaki will be buried on Saturday, April 30th at his Othaya home in Nyeri County.
The announcement was made by Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang'i, who is chairing the National Funeral Steering Committee.
His body will lie in state from Monday to Wednesday next week at the National Assembly where the public will be allowed to pay their last respect.
The Interior CS announced that members of the Diplomatic Community who wish to visit the family can do so at the Nyari house in Nairobi's Kitsuru area.
"Those in Nairobi who would like to visit the family can go to the late President Kibaki’s office in Nyari. A facility in the Othaya CDF office will be set up for leaders and members of the public to visit and pay their respect," Matiang'i stated.
Condolences books will be availed in all 47 counties by Tuesday, April 26. A state funeral service will be conducted on April 29, 2022, at Nyayo stadium.
"We have finalised the preliminary plans for the State Funeral of the late former President Mwai Kibaki," the Interior Cabinet Secretary stated.
Following the death of Kibaki, President Uhuru Kenyatta made four declarations that will be observed until he is interred.
In a statement at State House, Nairobi, on Friday, April 22, Uhuru declared a period of national mourning with flags flying at half-mast until President Mwai Kibaki is buried.
He noted that in honour of Mwai Kibaki, the Nation will observe a period of national mourning until sunset of the day of his interment.
Uhuru, further stated that the late Mwai Kibaki will be accorded a State Funeral, with full Military Honours and Protocols being rendered and observed.
Further, all Kenyan Diplomatic Missions, Public Buildings and Public Grounds, all Military Bases, Posts, and Stations, on all Naval Vessels of the Republic of Kenya, and elsewhere throughout the entire territory of the Republic of Kenya would also fly the flag at half-mast.
