Kameme FM radio presenter, Muthee Kiengei and his colleague, Ngoni wa Thuita (Ole Matope) reminisced their working days with Murang'a Woman Representative, Sabina Chege.

Kiengei recalled that Chege identified him when he was young and broke and offered him his first stint at Coro FM, owned by the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).

The radio star narrated that he showed up unkempt and in torn clothes on his first day at work.

Despite working at Coro FM, Kiengei claimed that the two Kameme FM presenters were not on the company’s payroll. An emotional Kiengei narrated to a gathering at an event on April 23.

“Chege was not only the manager but also our guardian angel. She paid our wages, parallel to the company's payroll. She supported us in every step of our careers” Kiengei recalled.

Their situation, however, worsened when Sabina Chege left her managerial role at KBC to vie for the Murang’a Women Representative seat in 2013.

The two were reportedly released from work and their hopes for a better future plummeted.

It was then that Muthee Kiengei learnt of the Kameme FM job opportunity and attended an audition thereafter. His first attempt in Nyeri failed as the judges reportedly claimed that he was not an area native.

He successfully auditioned for the job in the Nakuru edition alongside two others and was shortlisted for the job.

“I was picked over the other two because of my comedy skills and I started earning Ksh100,000 then. The amount made a difference in my life” Kiengei emotionally recounted.

His colleague Ngoni Thuita attributed his rags to riches story to Sabina Chege who gave him a chance when no one believed in him.

“I live in a large house, I have started my own production company, I have a happy family and I have Sabina to thank for that achievement” Ngoni heartily remarked.

Sabina Chege recently announced she will not defend her seat in the August 2022 elections to focus on popularsing Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition across the country.
