Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka has denied reports that he was mistreated at the funeral services of the late President Mwai Kibaki last week.

While speaking at an event in Machakos County on Tuesday, May 3, the former Vice President in Kibaki's administration asked politicians to stop speculating on reasons why he was not given an opportunity to address mourners.

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party principal stated that he was contented with attending the burial of his former boss adding that it was not a must for him to speak.

Kalonzo further hit out at allies of Deputy President William Ruto who alleged that he was mistreated at the event.

The Wiper party leader stated that his name should not be dragged into the conversations.

"Let Mzee Mwai Kibaki rest in peace. Don't make him a subject of debate about whether I was able to speak at his funeral. I had the privilege of working with him for five years.

"It was enough for me to have been there at Nyayo and Othaya. We are bigger than that. When talking about Kibaki's burial, don't mention my name." he stated.

The statements by Kalonzo come days after a section of United Democratic Alliance (UDA)  leaders asked the former VP to ditch Azimio alleging that he was being undermined.

During the burial of the late Kibaki, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Ruto, and President Uhuru Kenyatta were given an opportunity to mourn the former Head of State.

"Recently, at the burial of former President Mwai Kibaki, I was with the DP and Kalonzo arrived. When he entered the room (he was greeted in a weird way by Raila and Uhuru). I asked myself, is this person going to be anyone's running mate?"

"My message to Kalonzo Musyoka and all the remaining people in Azimio, the disrespect President Uhuru Kenyatta showed the DP by chasing him away in 2018, he will also show you," Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen expressed.

However, during an interview on Citizen TV on Monday, April 2, Nyeri Archbishop Antony Muheria explained that Kalonzo was not given a chance to speak as they wanted to keep politics out of the event as requested by the Kibaki family.

"The family of the late President Mwai Kibaki had expressly stated that they did not want political speeches and we respected that. In fact, the tributes were meant to be less than they were," he stated.
