Gatundu Member of Parliament, Moses Kuria, has accused the National Intelligence Service (NIS) of engaging in the country’s tendering process.

Speaking in Kiambu on Monday, May 23, Mr Kuria - who had accompanied deputy president, William Kipchirchir Samoei Ruto, and his Kenya Kwanza brigade for an economic forum with the voters, intimated that the NIS was involved in the procurement of the Western Bypass, a 17km stretch.

According to Mr Kuria, the road construction was not sanctioned by a procurement committee but by the NIS.

“This road was procured not by a tender committee but by the NIS. Since when did NIS start procuring construction of roads on behalf of the public?” wondered Mr Kuria, arguing that the road was constructed at an inflated cost.

“From Eastern Bypass to Ruaka, the road was constructed at a cost of Ksh1 billion per kilometer, and those who used this road to misappropriate taxpayers money are dining with President Uhuru Kenyatta.”

The outspoken Legislator remarked that if the Raila Odinga - Martha Karua ticket was built on integrity, then the two would not be dining with people accused of corruption. To cement their integrity ticket, Mr Kuria asked them to push Mr Kenyatta to get all those surrounding him and accused of corruption arrested and charged in a court of law.

“The people who have misappropriated the costs of the Western Bypass and the Lamu - Garissa road are with you. If you (Mr Odinga and Ms Karua) stand for integrity, get them arrested today,” stated the charged MP.

Mr Kuria, a firebrand politician keen on capturing the Kiambu gubernatorial seat, further opined that the Lamu - Garissa road, a LAPSSET project, was allocated Ksh86 million per kilometer of gravel, terming this as an outright daylight robbery by the government.

In a veiled attack against Mr Kenyatta, the Gatundu South MP, accused the Head of State of taking Kenyans for granted and treating them like an ignorant population, saying that Kenyans are not fools.

“Even if you were born being saluted, do not think that we are fools. We are the Prime Ministers and Presidents of our homes, and we are not afraid,” stated Mr Kuria.

The Legislator further called on the residents of Kiambu to vote out Mr Kenyatta and the Azimio La Umoja team, as well as the Jubilee Party.

“Have we all agreed that we will send that guy (Mr Odinga) home? And as we do that, let us also do the same for the Jubilee Party and its aspirants.”

Mr Kuria is gunning for the Kiambu top seat and will faceoff with Jubilee’s James Nyoro, who is also the incumbent, Tujibebe Wakenya Party’s William Gitau Kabogo, and United Democratic Movement’s (UDA) senator Paul Kimani Wamatangi.
