NTV's Ben Kitili along with his colleagues were on Sunday, June 5, involved in an accident minutes after leaving the Bomas of Kenya where the Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga received clearance from the Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Kitili detailed that the driver of a lorry lost control and rammed onto their car.

Kitili managed to swerve the vehicle in a bid to evade the collision.

"A lorry that lost control and rammed onto me, we had to swerve in order to avoid a collision. With the confusion on the road, a matatu that was on my tail also had to swerve and almost rolled into a ditch to avoid hitting me," he stated.

He added that police officers had rushed to the scene and recorded statements from both sides. Further, the company owners of the truck claimed responsibility for the damages.

"Police arrived at the scene, they recorded statements from both sides. Also, the truck's company came and took responsibility. At the moment, my vehicle is being worked on," he noted.

The journalist noted that he and his colleagues arrived safely at their destinations. The situation brings to light the numerous accidents that have occurred within the past week.

Recently Rabai MP William Kamoti died in a night accident shortly after receiving IEBC clearance. Stella Memusi, the wife of Kajiado Central Member of Parliament, Elijah Memusi, passed away days later along Athi River-Namanga road.

The latest report by NTSA revealed that 1,345 people had lost their lives as a result of road accidents from January 1, 2022, to April 11, 2022.

The authority has urged motorists and pedestrians to be vigilant while operating the roads.
