A veteran KBC journalist passed away on Monday morning, December 14, after being involved in a road accident in Migori County.
The renowned radio producer Beatrice Kevogo died after a head-on-collision between her car and a truck outside Rongo town.
Kevogo's son said that the mother was travelling to Migori to pick her mother who was to be ferried to Kitale County for the December Holidays.
Rongo Sub County Police Commander Peter Okiring confirmed the incident which occurred at 11 am. Eyewitnesses also accused the driver of over speeding. He rammed into Kevogo's saloon car resulting in the death of the journalist and four other occupants who died before being rushed to the hospital.
The police boss disclosed that the three other people who succumbed included a church member and close relatives of the KBC gospel programs producer. The bodies were taken to Rosewood Hospital mortuary in Rongo.
Statistics by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) detailed that road accidents have resulted in the death of 155 people in the last 10 days leading to December 13.
This translates to a death toll of 15 people per day. A rise in casualties has also been witnessed given that 107 people died from accidents over the same period of time in 2019.
Statistics documented by both the police and the NTSA added that road fatalities between January and December this year stood at 3,663, compared to 3,508, during the same period in 2019.
