Dennis Karani Gachoki, the main suspect in the Mirema Drive broad daylight shooting, has been released.

Gachoki, who was accused by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) as an accomplice in the murder of businessman Samuel Muvota, was released on Wednesday, June 8.

The suspect was released after the prosecution told Milimani principal magistrate Carolyne Muthoni Njagi that there was not enough evidence linking Gachoki to the murder of the slain businessman.

"The respondent has been cooperative and has given us an easy time during the entire period of the investigation, so I'm requesting the miscellaneous file be closed, for we have not found any evidence linking Gachoki to the murder," the lead investigating officer stated in court.

In its reports, the DCI had alleged that Gachoki was the driver of the getaway car that was used by the shooter to flee the scene of the crime.

The prosecution had been given two weeks to complete investigations, a day after Gachoki surrendered to police.

The DCI suspected Gachoki to have aided and abetted the crime and could provide information in locating the man who pulled the trigger.

"This crime was committed by more than two actors your honour. The respondent before the court is highly suspected to be the person behind the wheel," the DCI told the court.

Initially, the detectives had revealed a crime syndicate that drugged victims by spiking their drinks and taking away their belongings.

According to police, Muvota led the gang which targetted married and respectable people in the society.

After the revelation, the women went into hiding in fear of being apprehended by police.

"With Muvota gone after the bitter fallout with his second-in-command, who is currently at large, the Pishori empire has been left without a leader."

"Most of the women have left the city in droves to their rural areas, from where they are monitoring how things unfold. They better get used to life in the village because it will not be business as usual in the city,"DCI stated.
