Senate Speaker, Kenneth Lusaka, has stated that President Uhuru Kenyatta's decision in supporting former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, was informed by intelligence reports.
Speaking during an interview with Nation Africa on Thursday, June 9, Lusaka, an ally of the Deputy President, William Ruto, stated that he was not in any position to advise the President as his decisions are based on various intelligence reports he received.
He described Uhuru as a wise man having served as the Head of State for almost 10 years.
"The President knows all of us. He is the President and he is the greatest consumer of all the intelligence in the country. He knows who Lusaka is and he knows how I operate.
"Whatever informs his decision, I believe he is a wise person and Kenyans have entrusted him to lead us for ten years. He knows why he made that choice. I cannot pretend to advise him," he stated.
Lusaka also maintained that he was still good friends with Uhuru despite his decision to join the Kenya Kwanza faction.
The Speaker revealed that he held discussions with Uhuru before joining Ruto's camp expressing that he would never disrespect the President as they are good friends.
"I will not disrespect the President because he is a good friend of mine and I told him that I supported him in 2002, 2013, and 2017. He is finishing his term so things are different. I respectfully told him my position and things on the ground.
"Uhuru has visited my rural home and he came to my homecoming and that shows how deep my relationship with him is."
On working with the former Premier in the event he wins the August 9 polls, the former Bungoma governor stated that he would have no problem working with Raila having served under him in the grand coalition government.
He explained that he opted not to join Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party as he wanted to support a faction where he was assured that he would be on the ballot.
"Raila is a good friend of mine. We support the same team, Arsenal, and he has watched football at my house and I have also visited his house. I have no difficulty working with him. The current governor had already moved to DAP - K which is in Azimio and I was not sure whether I would be locked out."
Lusaka rejoined the Ford Kenya party in March and is eying to re-clinch the Bungoma gubernatorial seat.
The statements by Lusaka come amidst an uproar from the Kenya Kwanza faction who have demanded intelligence reports indicating that Raila would win in the first round by 60 per cent as claimed by various high profile government officials.
