The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has taken over the case of a 20-year-old house help Cynthia Nanjala believed to have been murdered while working at a senior security officer's home.
In an interview with the press on Saturday, June 11, Mwaura Kabata, a council member of LSK noted that the society had taken over the case to ensure justice was served for the victim.
He explained that he had gotten into contact with the family of the deceased since the culprits involved are high-ranking members of the society.
"The society has gotten in touch with the family and will be escalating the case because the main culprit may escape justice," stated Nanjala.
Nanjala passed away on Thursday, June 3, at Kenyatta National Hospital after sustaining injuries in what witnesses now believe was an attack.
Her relatives, based in Kangemi, claim that she was murdered in a suspected affair with an officer's husband in Embakasi, Nairobi.
Witnesses have dismissed claims that Nanjala had gone missing as earlier claimed and argued that she must have been attacked.
She was last seen taking clothes from the clothesline at her employer's house but was never seen leaving the apartments in Embakasi.
A witness argued that, if it was true she left the apartments, she would have been spotted by a watchman or talked to her sister who works in the neighbouring apartment.
"On that day, Cynthia was wearing a maxi-white dress with sleeves. I did not know what she wanted to ask me.
"I don't think Cynthia ran away because she could because the gateman could have seen her. Why didn't she tell her sister as well as the gateman? Cynthia stayed at Kawangwere and another sister lives in Kangemi. He did not ask anyone for anything," stated the witness.
Investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
