The Prisons service has made changes in its top management following the death of Senior Assistant Commissioner General of Prisons, Wanini Kireri.

In a statement dated Friday, June 17, Interior Ministry Director of Communications, Nixon Nganga, stated that various officers had been moved in a bid to ensure effective service delivery.

Assistant Commissioner General of Prisons, Kimega Angus Masoro, was appointed the Commandant, Prisons Staff Training College.

"Following the demise of the Senior Assistant Commissioner General of Prisons, Wanini Kireri, who at the time of her death was the Commandant, Prison Staff Training College, and to enhance efficiency at the Kenya Prison Service, the following appointments have been made," the statement read in part.

Assistant Commissioner of Prisons, Majere Priscilla Sussie, was appointed the Deputy Commandant.

Among those who were affected by the changes include Assistant Commissioner of Prisons, Kirii Jane Wanjiru, who was appointed the Regional Prisons Commander, Western Region.

The Assistant Commissioner of Prisons, George Diang'a, was appointed as the Director, Compliance/Standards and PRO at KPS Headquarters.

The prisons department has undergone major changes in the last one year following the appointment of Brigadier (Rtd) John Kibaso Warioba as the Commissioner General of Kenya Prisons.

Immediately after taking over, Warioba instituted the transfer of Nicholas Maswai who until the redeployment, was director of logistics, and Patrick Arandu, director legal and human rights. 

Maswai and Arandu were respectively appointed Eastern and Central Regional Commanders.

James Too, who was the former Central Regional Commander, was appointed as the director of logistics while Dickson Mwakazi was moved to the legal and human rights directorate from Eastern, where he was the commander.

Warioba moved swiftly to assert his authority after taking over from Wycliffe Ogallo, who was fired after the escape of three prisoners from the Kamiti Maximum prison.
