President Uhuru Kenyatta was spotted with his grandson during the launch of the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally.
The head of state was spotted introducing his grandson, to French megastars Sebastian Ogier and Sebastien Loeb during the launch on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at the KICC.
President Kenyatta's grandson, who is also called Uhuru was in the company of his father Jomo, at the WRC Safari Rally and they were spotted cheering while the safari rally vehicles sped off out of KICC.
Images of the President and his grandson were shared online and Kenyans on Twitter could not stop gushing about how cute the young Uhuru was.
The young Uhuru was donning a white cap while his grandfather wore a black one and the two were chatting before the flag off started.
The President has three grandchildren including Uhuru who turned two last month. Jomo's other child, Wanjiru, is five while the youngest grandchild, borne to Ngina Kenyatta was born in September last year.
President Kenyatta was greeting the superstars who will be competing at the four-day event which started in Nairobi and making its way to Naivasha.
From KICC, the cars were driven to Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani for a Super Special Stage before proceeding to Naivasha where they will battle through 18 competitive stages.
‘’We are proud to host this famous event. The event attracts millions of fans and is considered as one of the toughest events in the WRC series. The event unifies all walks of life in Kenya. The competition is not an enmity as it brings us all together,” stated the President.
"The rally contributes over Sh6 billion to our economy. Thanks to FIA for the support. Thanks to all the drivers and the best of competition.”
FIA Africa President Rodrigo Rocha of Mozambique, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed and the CEO of the WRC Safari Rally Phineas Kimathi were also present at the event.
Kenya's McRea Kimathi and Mwangi Kioni were the first crew to be flagged off by President Kenyatta.
They were followed by Maxine Wahome and Waigwa Murage. Sean Johnston and Alexander Kihurani (Citroen) were the first foreign crews to be flagged off.
