Nairobi residents have been advised to brace themselves for extremely cold weather conditions for the next five days starting today (Saturday, June 25).
In a weather forecast released by the Kenya Metrological Department on Friday, June 24, temperatures were primed to go as low as 5 degrees celsius.
Kenya MET stated that the country would experience prolonged cloudy hours with very few sunny intervals.
Further, MET added that there would be cases of rainfall in some parts of the city as has been witnessed in recent weeks.
Days that could experience extremely cold weather conditions include today, Monday (June 27) and Tuesday (June 28)
"Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are expected over the Highlands East of the Rift Valley as well as over some parts of the South-eastern lowlands, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Central and South Rift Valley.
"Rainfall is expected over the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Central and South Rift Valley as well as over a few areas in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and the Coast. The rest of the country is likely to be generally dry," read the forecast in part.
MET also stated that the cold weather conditions will apply to counties bordering Nairobi, especially the Mt Kenya region.
They include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi.
Consequently, Kenyans have been advised to keep warm during that day to protect themselves from diseases related to cold.
Some of the respiratory diseases related to cold weather include flu, common cold, pneumonia and asthma.
Additionally, the weatherman advised Kenyans intending to attend the WRC Safari Rally 2022 to carry umbrellas with them and expect rains over the weekend.
"This weekend, Naivasha may have scattered showers with sunny breaks. Get your umbrellas and enjoy yourselves!" MET cautioned.
