Police have revealed fresh details of a politician who was arrested at Inooro TV station during a live interview clad in full police uniform on Wednesday, June 29.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Thursday, June 30, Kilimani OCPD Andrew Muturi Mbogo disclosed that the aspirant who was identified as Monica Wamaitha Gitau indicated in her report filed at the station that she served as an Administration Police officer until 2011 when she resigned.

In her report, Wamaitha did not explain why she decided to leave the police service at that time.

"She indicated that she had served as an Administration Police officer before she decided to quit from service in 2011. She did not give more details why she decided to quit," Mbogo told Kenyans.co.ke.

Mbogo further explained that the politician did not give a satisfactory account of why she decided to don full police uniform. However, she indicated that she was not aware that former cops are not allowed to wear uniforms.

"She was adamant to explain why she decided to wear the full police uniform and even attend an interview with it which is clearly illegal. However, she indicated that she was not aware that her actions were against the law," Mbogo added.

The Kilimani OCPD added that the National Police Service has also taken up the investigations to ascertain whether she was a former cop.

Police Spokesperson Bruno Shioso also told Kenyans.co.ke, that law enforcement officers are pursuing different angles regarding the case to establish why she wore full police uniform.

He confirmed that Wamaitha had indicated that she was a former cop which the police service is investigating to establish if it is true.

Shioso reiterated that they are trying to establish how Wamaitha acquired the police uniform.

"Police officers are not supposed to keep their uniforms after exiting the service. They are supposed to surrender all of them during the clearing period," Shioso added.

Wamaitha - who is contesting for the Nairobi Woman Representative seat - is set to be arraigned at the Milimani law courts on Thursday, June 30, where she is expected to be charged with impersonating a police officer among other charges.
