A 33-seater matatu overturned at the entrance of the Nairobi Expressway in Westlands.
The Wednesday, July 6, accident is said to have been caused by a speeding bus belonging to Super Metro company that was heading to town.
The bus blocked the entrance to the toll station that serves motorists joining and exiting the Expressway at Westlands near Lion Place.
By the time of going to press, rescue services were underway even as police officers moved in to control the traffic build-up that was being experienced on Waiyaki Way.
A tow vehicle was at the scene to help in removing the bus from the scene of the accident and clear the busy road.
An ambulance was also at the scene with paramedics administering first aid to the injured passengers while those who sustained serious injuries were ferried to different health centers.
This comes barely a day after a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) crashed into the Mlolongo toll station.
CCTV footage released moments after the tragic accident showed an Embassava Sacco matatu at high speed ramming into a white SUV that was exiting the toll station.
At 7.07pm time stamp, the bus crashed into the toll station before overturning. The driver of the white SUV also lost control and hit a culvert next to the toll station before eventually rolling over.
A statement released by Moja Expressway, the company responsible for maintaining the Expressway, indicated that the bus swerved before approaching the toll station.
A toll attendant was among scores of people who sustained injuries.
"The matatu swerved severally while approaching the exit and unfortunately crashed into one toll booth and one SUV. We regrettably have one injured toll attendant who is receiving treatment while 22 out of the 33 passengers aboard the matatu sustained injuries.
"All casualties have been rushed to hospital for medical attention and are responding to treatment. Motorists are advised to avoid speeding and be cautious while on the road. Road safety starts with you," read the statement in part.
