Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa claimed on Saturday evening, July 9, that Deputy President Wiliiam Ruto almost slapped him in 2018.

The CS stated that the incident happened when he led a delegation of leaders from Western Kenya to State House, while holding the devolution docket.

Wamalwa who spoke during an Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party rally at Bukhungu Grounds in Kakamega, claimed that Ruto did not want the meeting to happen because he was not informed.

“ Ruto was furious and demanded my resignation. He wanted me to explain why I had taken leaders to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta without his permission” the CS said.

The revelations came barely days after a leaked audio clip of the Deputy President admitting that he nearly slapped the President in 2017 after the nullification of election results by the Supreme Court.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has since confirmed that  that he was indeed ready to step down for the peace of the country.

Wamalwa further divulged that the DP also confronted his Interior counterpart Dr Fred Matiang'i when he was given more responsibilities by the Head of State.

The CS, who is the patron of the Democratic Alliance Party of Kenya, DAP-K however confirmed that he had forgiven ruto for the embarrassment he caused him, telling the people of Western Kenya that the Kenya Kwanza candidate cannot be trusted to lead the county.

In Kakamega the CS and Azimio One Kenya flag-bearer Raila Odinga sent a stern warning to their competitors, reminding them to prepare for defeat on August 9.

Raila was accompanied by his running mate Martha Karua, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, and Mombasa governor Hassan Joho among other leaders

During the rally, Azimio leaders maintained that they have been to every part of the country and all indications are showing that Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua are on the verge of victory.

Raila also assured the residents of Kakamega that he has a formidable team that will see him ascend to power after the forthcoming elections.

“There are 30 days left until the General election. Let our opponents know that I have a formidable team. They should prepare to face disappointment of losing this election,” Odinga stated.

The ODM leader rallied the Mulembe nation to support his bid for Wamalwa and Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya to be in the next government.

The CS and the governor have already been named in Odinga's designate cabinet, with Oparanya who is serving his second and last term as county chief set to be the Treasury boss should Azimio form the next government.
