A fire broke out at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) headquarters on the morning of Monday, July 11.
A source from the Harry Thuku-based media house confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke that the fire broke out at the institution's canteen a few minutes before 6:00 a.m.
A video clip seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed how the flames consumed the whole building which is attached to the main block housing its broadcasting studios.
The fire was, however, contained by the police as well as the G4S after an initial delay by the Nairobi county government which reportedly did not have a fire engine on standby.
Sources within KBC confirmed to this writer that all the staff on duty were evacuated and that no one was injured in the early-morning incident.
"It started shortly before 6 a.m., G4S and police have contained the fire. Staff on duty evacuated. Everyone is safe," stated the source.
It is still not clear what caused the fire which has since been contained. The extent of the damage also remains unknown.
Fire outbreaks across the city have been rampant over the past month including incidences where a fire broke out at the Aberdare national park at the beginning of July.
Prior to the outbreak, another fire had burnt down the Platinum Packaging Company Ltd in Mlolongo, Machakos County on Monday, June 20.
The fire consumed property valued at millions with eyewitnesses noting that it had broken out at around 5:00 p.m. Its cause was also known.
Five days before the tragedy, another blaze had affected the City Stadium Market burning down second-hand clothes stalls.
The fire was, however, contained by engines from Nairobi County.
