Video of Jeff Koinange & Other Media Stars at Early Stages of Their Careers

A video of Citizen TV journalist Jeff Koinange and other veterans in the media industry during the early days of their careers has emerged.

In the post shared by advertising guru Brian Kimanzi on Monday, July 25, a young Jeff was hosting the Kisima Awards at the Carnivore Grounds in 1997.

He was tasked with reading the names of nominees in different categories before they came on stage to receive their trophies. Among the was legendary comedian Tony Njuguna.

"The male category for the best new actor of the year. The nominees are Tony Njuguna and Ian Mbugua," he announced.

Njuguna was named the winner of the category, trouncing Mbugua who also became a recognised name in the performing arts and media industry. Also present was Margaretta Wa Gacheru.

After the award ceremony, music producer Tedd Josiah and veteran deejay David Mureithi made the closing remarks - having been part of the organizers of the award.

Kisima Awards was initiated in 1994 to recognise outstanding players in performing arts and associated spheres. Winners were presented with an artistic clay trophy,  

"We are trying to motivate Kenyans to have the spirit. We can do what the Americans and British can do so that people can pick actors, singers, and producers from here," a young Josiah stated.

At the end of the video was an outro done by Jimmy Gathu, who now boasts an illustrious career in the media industry spanning over 20 years.

The video attracted some responses from the personalities who reminisced the good old days. Muriithi had in a tongue-in-cheek response, promising Kimanzi that he would also pull one of his clips from the archives.

"Kimanzi, I thought we were friends. Tedd, kindly let's get together and issue a joint statement. Our political careers are in jeopardy," he teased.

Twenty-five years after the video was recorded- Jeff is a presenter and show host at Citizen TV. Tedd owns a commercial leather brand, Muriithi runs a creative firm - while Njuguna runs a marketing services agency.
