NTV reporter Rukia Bulle recounted her encounter with Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) George Magoha in a video that attracted nationwide uproar.
In a statement to her followers, Bulle stated that she received support from different people after the clip that captured Magoha reportedly profiling her went viral.
Amidst mounting pressure for CS Magoha to retract his sentiments, the NTV reporter maintained that the incident would not derail her career.
"I just wanted to come on here and say thank you to anyone who took the time out of their day to send me nice messages or to check up on me.
"All your support does not go unnoticed. We’ll keep thriving regardless of anything thrown our way," Bulle stated.
Magoha and Bulle were embroiled in an altercation when the CS inspected the progress of the second phase of CBC classrooms in Nairobi County in July 2022.
"First of all, where do you come from? Who are you representing? Because if you are representing Al Shabaab, I will not answer you," the CS was captured saying.
"NTV is a good station, so I will answer you," Magoha joked.
However, he attracted a lot of backlash from a section of different groups.
The Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) leaders led by Hassan Ole Naado accused Magoha of undermining the journalist's religious freedom enshrined in the 2010 constitution. They called for his immediate sacking.
Media Council of Kenya (MCK) also castigated the CS calling and pressured him to issue an apology. MCK accused the CS of forging a habit of frustrating journalists.
"The Media Council of Kenya calls on the National Integration and Cohesion Commission (NCIC) to ensure the Cabinet Secretary issues an unconditional apology, withdraws the unfortunate remarks, and rescinds his directives against the smooth operation of media," MCK stated.
Magoha has, however, not responded to the demands.
