The Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) has put Education Cabinet Secretary, George Omore Magoha, on the spot over remarks he made against a NTV journalist.
In a press briefing at Jamia Mosque on Tuesday, July 26, SUPKEM leaders led by Hassan Ole Naado called out the CS accusing him of profiling the female journalist.
SUPKEM argued that Magoha's sentiments undermined her freedom of religion which is enshrined in the constitution.
"We are concerned about profiling a female reporter by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha.
"In this unfortunate incident captured and broadcast in video, the CS is seen targeting, discriminating and verbally attacking the young Muslim lady journalist based on her religion and referring to her as representing a terrorist organisation," Naado explained.
The Muslim leaders asked the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to take action against the CS.
Naado further asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to sack CS Magoha following the remarks.
Other Muslim clerics called for protecting of all journalists in the country the elections draw closer.
Magoha allegedly made the remarks while inspecting the second phase of CBC junior classrooms in Nairobi.
During the event, the female Muslim reporter covered in Hijab posed a question to Magoha, who, instead of answering, demanded to know where she came from and whether she was representing the Al Shabaab.
"First of all, where do you come from? Who are you representing? Because if you are representing Al Shabaab, I will not answer you," the CS was captured saying.
"NTV is a good station, so I will answer you," Magoha stated following a response from the journalist whose identity has not been made public yet.
CS Magoha and the Ministry of Education have not issued a statement on the accusations.
On the other hand, MCK and NCIC have also not responded to concerns raised by SUPKEM.
