Kenya Kwanza Principal Musalia Mudavadi responded to claims that he and UDA flagbearer William Ruto accepted cash offers in exchange for supporting presidential candidates.

Speaking on Thursday, July 28, during an interview with PAG Radio, Mudavadi emphatically stated that he had never been nought to support a candidate.

He stated that the political pacts he had formed since joining politics in 1989 were entirely based on corroborating ideologies.

"There are some things which make no sense because a political stand should be what it is. We have our stand and they have a stand, and if they think that people can be bought then I am not one of them," Mudavadi stated.

The Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader defended Ruto over allegations by Azimio Secretariat Executive Director Raphael Tuju that he was paid billions to support Uhuru in 2013.

He argued that Tuju was only out to soil Ruto's reputation because they were on different sides of the political divide.

"I have seen Tuju saying that Ruto was bought so that he could support Uhuru in 2013. First is that I forgive him for making such comments which I can only term as childish.

"When I supported Raila in 2013 and 2017, does it mean that I was bought? What about when Raila became Uhuru's project? Then it means that even he was bought," Mudavadi responded.

On July 27, Tuju claimed that Ruto allegedly demanded billions which were offset in two forms - cash paid upfront by well-wishers and supporters of the Head of State and powerful ministries in the government.

"A lot of people who supported President Uhuru went out of their way to collect this money and make Ruto come on board. For a man who says Ksh7 billion only, your guess is as good as mine but it was in the billions," he alleged.

The former Jubilee Secretary-General also stated that before opening the deal with Uhuru, he also demanded an unspecified amount from the ODM leader but settled on the highest bidder.

He further claimed that one leader from Western Kenya of demanding Ksh900 million from the former Prime Minister.
