Seven people were killed after the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a road crash.

The accident happened at Kalama Community Conservancy area along the Isiolo - Moyale highway.

According to preliminary reports released by Samburu East Deputy OCPD, Juma Boy, the seven perished on the spot while seven others sustained serious injuries.

The OCPD, however, did not immediately disclose whose victory the seven were going to celebrate.

The occupants of the ill-fated vehicle were reportedly going to celebrate the election victory of a Member of County Assembly (MCA) at Leerata when their car veered off the road.

The injured were rushed to a nearby health facility for treatment with those critically injured getting admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

"Preliminary report show majority of them were from Lorubae area within Archers Post and were to meet the politician at Leerata for celebrations," Juma told Nation Africa.

"We have launched probe into the matter to establish what transpired before the accident."

Eyewitness reports indicated that the vehicle was speeding before it veered off the road and rolled several times.

The incident comes a day after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) closed the voting process across the country and the vote counting process started.

In the recent IEBC briefing, the Commission chairperson, Wafula Chebukati, advised candidates to concede defeat once the winner is declared.

"Candidates conceding defeat have their results because MP and MCA winners are declared at the constituency level. If you have the forms and the numbers, you can know where you are. It is prudent to concede," Chebukati stated.

"I would like to encourage all agents to share with their respective candidates the forms if you have lost concede."
