Roots Party's George Wajackoyah got 249 votes (0.81 per cent) while his Agano Party counterpart David Mwaure, got 110 votes (0.36 per cent).

Chebukati revealed that 384 cast ballots(1.25 per cent) were rejected.

While 48,950 residents had registered to vote in the constituency, the voter turnout stood at 62.2 per cent.

"Those are the results of Webuye East Constituency. We (IEBC) shall be back with more verified results," Chebulati stated.

The constituency is the first of 291 constituencies that the Commission will have to release the final tally after verifying the data submitted by Returning Officers.

In addition, IEBC commissioners will also verify the forms from the diaspora, which is regarded as a single constituency. In the poll conducted on August 9, Kenyans abroad voted in 27 polling stations across 12 countries.

As of Thursday 7 pm, the electoral body had only received forms from 128 constituencies accounting for 43.99 per cent.

According to the Elections Regulations, the IEBC is supposed to receive and verify Forms 34As and 34Bs before announcing the final results. Any rejected tallies must be done in the presence of the Chief Agents of presidential candidates.

Presidential candidates Raila Odinga and William Ruto have also set up parallel tallying centres where they are conducting their own vote counting.
