List of Politicians Declared Governors-Elect

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission - IEBC has declared a number of governors-elect from different counties across the country.

Here is a list of the gubernatorial candidates who have earned the seat and the numbers they managed to score.

Gladys Wanga

She defeated seasoned politician and former Nairobi governor Dr Evans Kidero and the provisional results announced by the IEBC showed that Wanga won the race with 244,559 votes.

Kidero came second with 154,182 while United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party's Mark Raudi came in third with 1,244 votes. 

Anyang' Nyong'o

Prof Nyong’o was re-elected as Kisumu Governor after garnering 319,957. His closest rival MDG’s Jack Ranguma came second with 100,600 votes.

The results were announced by the constituency Returning Officer Yegon Kibos at the Kisumu county tallying centre, Tom Mboya Labour College.

The gubernatorial race attracted four candidates. Beryl Meso, an Independent candidate got 3,383 votes while Erick Otieno finished last with 2,705 votes. 

Paul Otuoma

He was declared the Busia County governor-elect after garnering 164,478 votes against Nambale Member of Parliament John Bunyasi who got 92,144 votes. 

Dr Otuoma, in 2017 lost the governor race to outgoing county boss Sospeter Ojaamong, who himself conceded defeat in the Teso South MP race on Thursday. 

Daniel Mogoria came in third with 14,396 votes followed by outgoing deputy governor Moses Mulomi who garnered 2,546 votes while Michael Oloo was last with 1,675 votes.

George Natembeya

The former Rift Valley Regional Coordinator, who vied with a Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) defeated Chris Wamalwa of Ford Kenya. He was declared Trans Nzoia governor-elect after he garnered 158,919 votes.

Wamalwa conceded defeat and congratulated his opponent, for putting up a tough fight and clinching the county's top seat.

“The Elections are now over and the results are out. I have not been successful in my quest to be the second Governor of our great County. I thank the Almighty God, and all my supporters, from both far and near, for their unyielding support. Receive my eternal gratitude,” he stated.

Jonathan Bii

The United Democratic Alliance candidate was declared Uasin Gishu governor-elect. Bii garnered 214,036 votes edging Independent candidate Zedekiah Bundotich who got 127,013 votes.

Bii also trounced former CEO of the Agricultural Development Corporation William Kirwa who came in third.

Simon Kachapin

The UDA candidate garnered 86,476 votes to trounce incumbent West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo who got 84,610 votes.

Kachapin was running on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket while Lonyangapuo flew the Kenya Union Party (KUP) flag.

Lonyangapuo also faced his deputy Prof Nicholas Atudonyang, who ran on a KANU ticket.

Ochillo Ayacko

Migori Senator Ochillo Ayacko of ODM was declared governor-elect of the County after getting 175,226 votes against DAP-K candidate John Pesa who garnered 126,171.

Former Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno, who vied on a Jubilee Party ticket, earned 21,174 votes, and Rebecca Maroa of UDA garnered 6,563 votes while Jane Moronge of UPIA got 5,994 votes.

“I want to say to my worthy competitors that they made this journey to the win worth it. They still have a part to play in making Migori great again. I pledge to work for voters and end endemic corruption,” Ayacko stated.

Stephen Sang 

The UDA candidate retained his seat as Governor of Nandi County after beating his predecessor Cleophas Lagat. Sang was successfully re-elected for a second term with 237,045 votes. Ex-Governor Cleophas Lagat got 55,375. 

Ken Lusaka

Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka bounced back to county governorship after flooring the incumbent Wycliffe Wangamati. Lusaka got 244,298 votes.
