The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) and the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) have joined the case where Daniel Musyoka, a staffer attached to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), was found dead.

In a statement shared on Tuesday, August 16, the ODPP, headed by Noordin Haji, noted that it was following up the case shortly after the police recovered the body in a thicket in Loitoktok, Kajiado county.

"ODPP is following up the case of missing & subsequent death of Daniel Mbolu Musyoka, an IEBC Returning Officer for Embakasi East Constituency, whose body was found today in Loitoktok Kajiado County.

"According to police, Musyoka's body was found in a thicket near the Kenya-Tanzania border in Loitoktok Sub-County. Musyoka went missing on Aug 11, 2022. Investigations are ongoing," read the statement in part.

LSK, on the other hand, vowed to furnish the family of the late Musyoka with a lawyer and promised to ensure that justice is served.

LSK President Eric Theuri further challenged the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to expedite investigations into the incident.

“We will follow up on the investigations to ensure full accountability for this senseless and heinous death," stated Theuri.

The commission, in a press briefing, had learned that the deceased went missing on the night of Thursday, August 11, after excusing himself to make a phone call.

“Reports received by the commission indicate that at around 9 am on Thursday, he was escorted from his home to the tallying center by his bodyguard. At around 9.45 am, he excused himself to make a telephone call but did not return,” noted its Chairperson Wafula Chebukati.

Musyoka's family confirmed to the press that their kin was found dead in Amboseli Park, Kajiado county. The officers handling the case revealed that they received an alert after a body of a middle-aged man was found in the forest.

The body was positively identified by his sisters; Mary Mwikali and Ann Mboya at the Loitokitok sub-county mortuary.

Loitoktok police boss Kipruto Ruto confirmed that the family had been able to identify Musyoka ending a 5-day search for the missing Embakasi East Returning Officer.
