Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police, Charlton Murithi, has died.
Reports indicated that Murithi passed away on Friday, August 19, while receiving treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in Nairobi.
He was receiving treatment for cancer at KNH where he had been admitted and under the watchful eye of doctors round the clock.
Murithi was battling cancer complications. Three months ago, he was flown to South Africa for treatment.
The Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police was brought back to Kenya and was admitted to the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).
Police stated that Murithi’s death was confirmed by his brother.
The National Police Service mourned him as a dedicated, professional officer who will be missed by colleagues.
A condolence book was opened at police headquarters for those wishing to pay their last respect to him.
Murithi served as the Kenya National Focal Point (KNFP) Director on Small Arms and Light Weapons.
The unit was established to control and coordinate initiatives and actions on arms control countywide.
The Kenya National Focal Point on Illicit Small Arms and Light Weapons is under the Office of the President but it is currently run by the police.
He also served as the Personnel Director at police headquarters in Nairobi and had a stint as a Traffic Commandant.
