Leaders elected under the Jubilee Party have been warned of dire consequences should they defect to president-elect William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza camp.
Addressing the press on Friday, August 19, Jubilee Secretary General, Jeremiah Kioni, stated that politicians found defying the party position will be punished as per the law.
Kioni stated that the party would ensure that leaders who defect lose their seats.
"Once you are in the position you sought to be elected to and you immediately start to shift positions, you lack the leadership positions we are looking for as Kenyans.
“Any member of the Jubilee Party exhibiting wayward behaviour and planning to switch from one party to another should know that they risk losing their seats," Kioni stated.
He explained that the ruling party was signatory to the deed of agreement establishing Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party, adding that they were determined to honour the pact under the faction led by former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga.
Further, he refuted claims that some of their members were contemplating joining the Kenya Kwanza team following Ruto's win in the just concluded August 9 polls. The SG termed the reports as propaganda.
"We had a pre-election coalition agreement which we would want to remain faithful to," the SG stated.
However, Kioni explained that the party would only defect to another coalition if all the members agreed to the move.
Kioni made the statements in reference to the recent defections that have been witnessed since Ruto was declared president-elect by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson, Wafula Chebukati.
Some of the defections have affected Azimio which has been consolidating numbers to take up majority of the positions in the August house.
Some of the members of the Raila-led faction who have defected to Kenya Kwanza include Mandera Senator-elect Ali Roba and his United Democratic Movement (UDM) team.
