Fresh off a hotly contested August 9, presidential poll, former Attorney General, Prof Githu Muigai will be leading a legal team to represent the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in the expected presidential petition by the Azimio camp.
The AG emeritus will be making a comeback after being off the political limelight since his exit from the State Law's office in February 2018.
Despite his extensive career, Githu has managed to keep his family off the public eye with little details known about them.
His daughter, Wambui Muigai, has taken a page out of Githu's playbook and resorted to delving deeper into the legal career, essentially ditching her dream to pursue journalism.
Speaking to Young East African Aspiring Lawyer Network at a past interview, she noted that her mind shifted after witnessing first-hand a profession that sought to stamp the rules and regulations that govern society in general.
"I remember so vividly attending my first Court proceedings. It was a Constitutional Petition and everyone from the Judge to the Advocates to the Witnesses was so engrossed in bringing clarity to the matter. I was automatically consumed by a profession that establishes the rules and regulations that simultaneously reflect and govern our societies," she stated.
"Much like the law, over time what continues to draw me to the profession is ever-changing and evolving, however, the passion to practice the law remains constant," she added.
Wambui is an associate at Mohammed Muigai LLP- having amassed close to three years of experience. According to her profile, she holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Kent. Wambui also holds a Legal Practicing Course and a Masters in Law from the University of Law in Manchester, United Kingdom.
In addition, she holds a Post-graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law before being admitted to the Bar in 2019.
Some of the memorable matters she has handled include playing an advisory role to a conglomerate of companies on their respective tax implications in the country, and assisting several election petitions from the 2017 General Election.
Others include assisting international arbitration on behalf of the Kenyan Government and handling numerous Criminal appeals among others.
Wambui is a member of seven legal professional bodies including the Law Society of Kenya, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Kenya) (UK), Young, and International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) to name a few.
Her brother, Muigai Githu, is also an associate at the firm and much like his father, he has amassed an extensive career.
On the other hand, their mother, Margaret Waringa Muigai, is a judge under the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
