Homabay governor-elect, Gladys Wanga, has directed that the current county government staff remains in office until the transition to the new government is complete.

In a statement dated Tuesday, August 23, Wanga cautioned members of the public against falling into illegal recruitment schemes by some questionable county officers.

"We have a transition in progress and there should be no recruitment of staff until the new administration takes charge and finds it necessary to initiate the same," read her statement in part.

The outgoing Homabay Woman Representative added that the corrupt cartels prey on vulnerable and unsuspecting citizens looking for employment.

According to Wanga, these cartels and questionable dealers lure the residents with non-existing jobs and ask for money in exchange.

In addition, the politician emphasized that any recruitment letter being given to members of the public will be dismissed and the officers behind the unlawful held culpable.

"All county government staff and those of the County Public Service Board are advised to refrain from acts that may undermine the integrity of the county government during this period," Wanga warned.

In her statement, Wanga added that due to the alarming incidents of irregular recruitment, residents should be on high alert during the transition period.

As the incoming county boss, Wanga assured residents that her government would ensure the county reaches its full potential.

Wanga announced that her swearing-in will be held at Homabay Stadium on Thursday, August 25 from 9am.

She won the Homabay gubernatorial seat with 244,559 votes on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket against Evans Kidero who came second with 154,182 on an independent ticket.

Wanga goes down in history as the first female governor in the Nyanza region.
