Kenyans Warned of Syndicate Using Fake Govt Tenders to Con Businessmen

The Kenya Electricity Generating Company, KenGen on Tuesday, August 30, warned Kenyans of a syndicate targeting businessmen with fake government tenders.

KenGen noted that the imposters approach unsuspecting entrepreneurs as officials of the company and could canvass on the tenders for them at an undisclosed fee.

The firm denounced association with the clique, reckoning that majority of the 'lucrative' opportunities were fictitious.

"These individuals have also been soliciting for money from unsuspecting members of the public in exchange for non existent tenders or business opportunities," the notice read in part.

In addition, it clarified that it follows the laid-out procedures of awarding tenders, clarifying that no money was required in the application process.

"KenGen formally advertises all recruitment opportunities and awards them in line with the Public Procurement Laws and Regulations. We do not request for cash before awarding tenders," the institution noted.

Victims who have been conned as well as those who have been approached by the con artists have been asked to report the matter with to the police or to the company's offices.

KenGen is the leading power generating company in the country and the East African region, with an installed capacity of 1,903.69 Megawatts of across geothermal, hydroelectric, win and thermal plants.

The company has a tender portal where it advertises tenders to bidders who have been further categorised into citizen contractors, open national and open international.

It also has tenders reserved for special groups such as the youth, women and people with disabilities.

With the country still fresh from a General Election and a looming transition period, con artists have been taking advantage of those search for employment business opportunities with the incoming government.

Earlier, Moja Expressway flagged a fake advert offering job opportunities at the firm.
