On Thursday, September 1, the Supreme Court kicked off the second day of the hearing of the Presidential petition filed by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, challenging William Ruto's win.
Opening the order of business, Chief Justice Martha Koome who heads the bench noted that the day would start with the submissions from lawyers representing Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
"Welcome to today's proceedings. I am looking at the Consolidated petition. We had hoped to hear IEBC first. IEBC, the Chairman and the other two commissioners," announced Koome.
Former Attorney General Prof Githu Muigai is leading the legal team representing IEBC and its chair Wafula Chebukati.
Raila Odinga and seven others are seeking the annulment of William Ruto's victory. The former Prime Minister sued the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) which declared Ruto the president-elect and his first relief, seeking a recount of the ballots was honoured by the court during the pre-conference held on Tuesday, August 30.
