A father, his wife and two-year-old son passed away in a road carnage moments after admitting his child at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Kapkatet, Kericho County.
The trio was said to be travelling back home after celebrating the student's admission.
The car they were travelling in collided with a school bus at Keroka along the Kisii-Sotik Highway.
According to police reports, the mother died on the spot while the father and son were rushed to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The two, unfortunately, succumbed to severe injuries incurred from the accident. Relatives of the family who spoke with the police confirmed their demise.
"One of the passengers the mother, died on the spot while the rest were rushed to Kisii Referral Hospital. We have received information from the relatives that the husband succumbed to injuries. Their son also passed on," the police reported.
"The driver seemed to be negotiating the sharp corner at Kigogi but unfortunately lost control and swayed to the opposite lane," the police added.
Seemingly, the father was driving the vehicle while the wife was in the passenger seat when the bus rammed into the vehicle.
The school bus was slightly dented after the incident while the family vehicle was smashed to pieces.
After the accident occurred, area residents rushed to the scene to help the victims in the car wreck.
The accident comes days after three others were killed along the Kisumu-Kakamega road when a truck lost control and rammed into a private vehicle. Two pedestrians were severely injured.
Statistics provided by the National Transport and Safety Authority indicate that Kenya recorded 1,968 deaths as of June 2022 compared to 1,800 lives during the same period in 2021
According to NTSA, 622 pedestrians, 545 motorcyclists, 322 passengers, and 192 pillion passengers accounted for the deaths recorded.
181 drivers and 29 pedal-cyclists also lost their lives in the six months to June 2022.
