A new twist has emerged in the death of a form three student at Tala Girls High School in Machakos County who was accused of stealing Ksh2,500 and pencils after the school administration revealed that the student had agreed to return the said items.

In a police report filed at Tala Police station, the principal and deputy noted that the 16-year-old girl had admitted that she was in possession of the items and was supposed to take the prefect to collect the items in the dormitory.

The principal stated that the student took longer than expected which led to other students rushing to the dormitory, only to find her body.

"The student took too long to come back, thus making the deputy principal suspicious. She proceeded to the dorm in the company of three other students only to find the student's body," read part of the report.

The report by the principal contradicted the student's suicide note where she absolved herself of the crime and noted that she had not been given a chance to explain herself.

The student, who was addressing her mother in the note, did not mention anything regarding the Ksh2,500 but only talked of the lost pencils.

“I told you guys that I am not responsible for the lost pencils but you will still not believe me as you insist I am the one. Well only God knows but since I don’t want to cause more trouble in this school and let my mum suffer again because of me, let me let myself out. May God bless you for always encouraging me bye bye. I am coming to meet you, dad,” she stated.

“I beg and pray that you will not involve my mum in this because she still has some tasks to do for my siblings,” she added.

The mother had accused the administration of complacency over the matter, arguing that they failed to update her on the events that transpired before her daughter took her own life.

She urged Education CS George Magoha to take up the matter and expedite the investigations.

"I request CS Magoha to help me get justice. Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, also kindly intervene. The school's principal was reluctant to explain what really transpired," she requested.
