President-elect William Ruto's bodyguards were forced to swing into action on Sunday, September 4, after a man breached the security detail to deliver a file to the outgoing DP.

The president-elect was attending a thanksgiving church service at Larmudiac High School in Njoro Sub-County, Nakuru County, flanked by DP-elect Rigathi Gachagua, Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, county senator Tabitha Keroche, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, Kivutha Kibwana, ANC's Musalia Mudavadi among others.

Keroche had just proceeded to the dias to make her introductory remarks before the man rushed to Ruto's seat.

The bodyguards who appeared to have been caught off guard whisked the man away. After order was restored, unmoved Ruto was seen holding the documents delivered to him.

While making his remarks, the president-elect neither addressed the security breach nor did he reveal the contents of the document.

Ruto affirmed that his administration would fulfill all the promises made to Nakuru residents including infrastructure development, as well as to tend to the pending projects that stalled in the county. He also lauded Kenyans for maintaining peace during the electioneering period.

"Our first assignment is to relieve the stress of many contractors who are holding pending bills on many projects that have stalled. We have close to Ksh500 billion pending projects," Ruto stated.

"A lot of naysayers and false prophets predicted that the country would end up in chaos. Their work was to spread hatred but we have reason to thank God because peace has prevailed in Kenya and He has given us victory," he added.

Ruto's security was beefed up after being declared president-elect by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman, Wafula Chebukati.

Under the National Police Service Act, 2011, Ruto was provided with 200 officers while another 45 were attached to DP-elect, Rigathi Gachagua.

This is not the first time that Ruto's bodyguards have been called into action to deal with threats.

In January 2022, while on a campaign trail in Bomet County, Ruto's bodyguards also had to quell a security breach after a man tried to access the podium.

However, the man was accosted by two bodyguards who moved him away from the Bomet Green Stadium.
