"In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 126 (2) of the Constitution of Kenya, I. Uhuru Kenyatta, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, appoint that the First Sitting of the National Assembly and Senate shall be held at the Main Parliament Buildings in the Senate Chamber, Nairobi, on September 8, 2022, at 9.00 am," read the notice in part.

A section of MPs allied to Kenya Kwanza had lamented that Uhuru was intentionally delaying the gazettement.

"What is therefore cooking? Is there a deliberate move to delay or negate the swearing-in of MPs-elect? Is there an attempt to create a constitutional crisis by ensuring that Parliament is not in place?" Garissa Town MP-elect Aden Duale stated.

"Looking at Parliamentary Practice, in the 11th Parliament, the late, President H.E Mwai Kibaki gazetted the date of the first sitting of the 11th Parliament within 2 weeks after the election of the Uhuruto ticket," Duale added. .

Article 126(2) of the Constitution, required Uhuru to publish the time and location of the first parliament sitting within 30 days.

Meanwhile, Kenya Kwanza fronted Bungoma senator-elect, Moses Wetangula, for the National Assembly Speaker position while Azimio La Umoja vouched for the former speaker, Kenneth Marende.

"Azimio coalition has decided to front Marende as our candidate for the National Assembly speaker. We have decided to go for someone who has been tried and tested, someone who understands the operations of Parliament.”

"We are going to formally communicate this to all our members by Monday. All the coalition partners including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka are in agreement," Junet Mohamed, Azimio Secretary Genera announced.
