Details of Ruto's Phone Call With French President Emmanuel Macron

President-elect, William Ruto on Tuesday, September 6, held discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron via a phone call. 

In a statement released by the French government, the two Heads of State expressed their desire to deepen the Franco-Kenyan relationship within the framework forged during Macron's 2019 visit. 

Macron highlighted that both governments would work together to improve on areas of infrastructure, agriculture and health. 

The French president also lauded Kenyans for maintaining peace while exercising their democratic rights during the electoral period.

Both presidents further agreed to work together to support the efforts of the African Union. 

"The President of the Republic and President-elect Ruto expressed their desire to deepen the Franco-Kenyan relationship, within the framework of the dynamic created by the visit of the President of the Republic to Kenya in 2019 and as a priority in the fields of infrastructure, agriculture and health."

"The President of the Republic also paid tribute to the stabilizing role of Kenya in its regional environment and insisted on France's desire to continue the cooperation in progress within the framework of the United Nations Security Council and in support of the efforts of the African Union," read part of the statement. 

Various international leaders have congratulated Ruto after the Supreme Court upheld his victory on Monday, September 5. 

United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken lauded Ruto for his victory and noted the long-standing relationship between the two countries.  

"Congratulations to William Ruto on his election as Kenya’s next president. We look forward to working with the new government and deepening our longstanding partnership for the benefit of Kenyans and Americans alike."

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema also congratulated Ruto for the fervent victory at the Supreme Court ruling. 

"Congratulations to Dr William Samoei Ruto, on being declared 5th President of the Republic of Kenya. Look forward to working with Your Excellency William Ruto to strengthen and enhance historical good relations between Zimbabwe and Kenya based on our shared priorities for our two peoples," Hakainde stated.
