The meeting comes against the backdrop of the plight of many Kenyans who have opened up on their struggles in the gulf countries.

24-year-old Diana Chepkemoi's desperate situation was highlighted after photos and videos surfaced online sparking widespread condemnation.

The uproar led to the government's intervention to repatriate Chepkemoi. Four days after her plight went viral, she returned to the country.

Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary, Macharia Kamau noted that the government had called upon Kenyans to refrain from sending their kin to the gulf countries.

"We have told Kenyans repeatedly to stop sending this category of workers to Saudi. You’ve chosen not to listen," he stated.
