Reports indicated that that the foreigners were part of a failed human trafficking scheme. They however had valid tourist visas.

Based on police reports, the foreigners had contravened the agreements of the travel documents and action needed to be taken.

According to witnesses in Mombasa, the group begged for money to travel to Eastleigh in Nairobi county.

"They were asking for our help to raise money. We were surprised because we have never seen this before,” one of the residents stated.

They had been spotted along the streets of Old Town, Mwembe Tayari, Kibokoni, and Moi Avenue, and a section of the Marikiti market in the region.

Police officers were alerted about the unusual event and dashed into action. They were apprehended and taken to the Central police station for interrogation.

Following the arrest, the Mvita Sub-county Police Commander Maxwell Agoro told the public that the travel documents for the foreigners had been forwarded to the immigration office for further verification.

"The foreigners will be taken to the immigration office for processing of their documents before any further action is taken," he stated.

Sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) department took over the case and continued with investigations.
