State House is set to commission the revamped Uhuru and Central Park on the evening of Monday, September 12, the eve of President-elect William Ruto's swearing in ceremony.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a highly-placed source at the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) indicated that the event will be held at the park between 7:00pm and 8:00pm.
The city's skyline will be lit with fireworks to mark the official commissioning of the park - an event set to be carried out solely by State House.
Our source, however, clarified that the opening of the park would be done in phases to allow NMS to complete the construction of some sections of the historic park.
"It is notified for General information of the Public that there will be a Fireworks Extravaganza in Uhuru Park between 7-8pm on 12th Monday in celebration of Commissioning of Uhuru & Central Park.
"Members of the public are advised to anticipate and enjoy the display," read a notice from NMS which is headed by Major-General Mohammed Badi.
The notice was made to alert city residents of the impending function to avoid panic.
Towards the end of August, NMS released the spectacular images capturing the refurbished park which has been undergoing renovations since 2021.
The revamped park spots a well kept lush green garden with well paved cabro walkways and properly fitted sitting areas.
Additionally, the NMS provided more benches in various sections of the park to enable Kenyans to have places to rest when visiting the recreational facility.
"The revamped green spaces will play a critical role in environmental pollution management, social-economic development of the nation as well as the physical well-being of citizens.
"The rehabilitation works which come 52 years after the green spaces were first opened to the public involved construction of a playground, an outdoor gym, jogging tracks, botanical trails, an outdoor library and a skating park," read the NMS statement at the time.
Also installed at the park, is an old plane which NMS boss General Mohamed Badi stated would be converted into a high-end hotel during an interview on August 4.
