A motorist was captured dangerously speeding past the Syokimau toll station along the Nairobi Expressway without making payment.

In the CCTV footage that went viral on Wednesday, September 14, it was revealed that the incident took place minutes past 3 pm today.

The saloon car driver was filmed approaching the toll station at a high speed even as there were two more vehicles still making payments at the toll station.

Shortly after, the car was filmed manoeuvring the space between a truck that the guard rails protecting the 27-kilometre roads.

Due to the impact of the vehicle and the speed, the guard rail appeared to bend even as the motorist sped off.

The truck driver and that of the saloon car that were still waiting for the toll attendant to serve them remained in the car during the incident.

On social media, the video drew mixed reactions among Kenyans as a section of Kenyans raised concerns over the open spaces between the expressway and the guard rails.

Others also wondered whether the move was intentional or whether the driver had lost control of the car.

"A curious case, indeed! I would like to hear the driver's explanation for this - attempting to use the Expressway for free or a genuine mishap? And how did the barrier just go up for him without collecting a "ticket" and then it lowers again?" Iterant Voveger stated.

"He must have hit something then lost control or brakes failed. Nobody in their right mind can do that to save a few shillings as 170 bob," Daniel Nyanumba opined

The management of the expressway is yet to comment on the matter.

In recent months, a number of crashes have been witnessed along the 27-kilometre road which has often forced the expressway management to adopt a raft of measures to contain the situation.

Among the measures introduced were the 80 km per hour speed limit and the rumble strips to control the speed of vehicles.

"We are in the process of erecting more rumble strips at the exit points and introducing more speed bumps to control the speed, especially at the Toll Stations," Moja Expressway General Manager of Corporate Affairs, Zhang Jin, told Kenyans.co.ke in July.
