The family of Paul Gicheru, the International Criminal Court (ICC) suspect who was found dead on Monday, September 26 was devastated upon receiving the news of his demise.

This is according to Senior Counsel John Khaminwa, the family who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke.

Khaminwa added that Gicheru's widow was shocked by the sudden death and was in a "very bad condition" after the loss of her husband.

The veteran lawyer further explained that Gicheru's son being admitted to a hospital in Nairobi also weighed heavily on the deceased lawyer's wife.

"Gicheru's wife is currently at the family's Karen home (ahead of the expected autopsy report).

"It is a devastating story. The death was shocking to the family and the wife is stressed about the loss. One child is in hospital too," Khaminwa added.

In addition, Khaminwa urged the public and the media to accord the family privacy as they come to terms with the shocking demise of Gicheru.

The family lawyer also spoke against poisoning reports that flooded the media after Gicheru passed away. He instead urged for patience and calmness to allow authorities to finalize the probe into the cause of his death.

"The cause of death is not yet known and it's being investigated by police officers," he stated.

According to Khaminwa, his family was considering the option of seeking more clarity on the cause of his death through the input of pathologists.

"The best we can do at the moment is not to indulge ourselves in reckless allegations. Let us find out what the investigators will come up with.

"We may have to decide whether we should have a postmortem and bring in pathologists to look at some of his internal organs," he added while speaking to the media.

In an earlier interview with members of the press, Khaminwa disclosed that Gicheru appeared to be stressed days before he died.
