43 Popular Nairobi Clubs Face Closure in County Crackdown [LIST]

Nairobi County Liquor Board has suspended the licences of 43 bars and nightclubs after a crackdown following noise complaints from residents. 

In a statement on Monday, October 3, the Liquor Board said the owners of the clubs have failed to comply with the set guidelines despite police and NEMA officials arresting staff and customers in the club.

“The Liquor Board has received complaints from various Residents Associations and the General Public on excessive noise and vibration on licensed liquor premises,”

“The complaints have also been received by the County Environment Compliance and Enforcement officers despite arrests and arraignment in court, the proprietors have refused to comply and continue to contravene the stipulated licencing condition,” read part of the statement.

The joints that are facing closure include Quiver Lounge, Loft, Clique Joint, Pioneer Resort, and Bar Next door.

Others are Oyster in Kilimani, Grace House Resort at Yaya Center, Sufra in Westlands, Onix along Ngong Road, Orchid Lounge in Kibra and Tipsy Lounge Dagoretti North.

The Board also cancelled the licence of Edus Bar in Kibra, Kettle House Bara and Grill (Dagoretti North), La Baite in Kibra, Vineyard, Paris and Coco Rico in Roysambu.

“By a copy of these Memo, you are instructed to start the process of cancellation, revocation and closing down the under-listed premises as the provision of the Nairobi  City County Alcoholic Drinks Control and Licensing Act 2014 in line with section 21(1) and 35(3)," Hesbon M Angwena, the Director of Liquor Licensing stated.

Further, in Roysambu Taiyan Garden, Marine Garden, Eden Bliss, Castle Inn Gardens and Vineyard Bar were not spared.

New Galaxy in Kahawa West, Black Bull in Embakasi West, Memphis Bar, Gagagi Bar, Slosha Bar, Numero 5, and Marula Manor Garden are also facing the axe.

Other joints that could close doors are Enzone Bar and  Dejavu in Westlands, Havens Lounge, Coyote, Tipsy lounge, Ibury, Bwibo, Monk, Samaki Samaki, Komesha Club in Karen and Langata, Club 909-Formally Palanca, Hera Aqua in Dagoreti North and Chase Bar in TRM.

This comes after police arrested 26 people on Saturday, October 1,  during a raid on five entertainment joints for causing noise pollution and selling banned Shisha in Nairobi's Kilimani area.

Kilelewshwa MCA Robert Alai had petitioned the Director of Liquor licensing to reign on 15 Entertainment  establishments for noise pollution, drug peddling and other social vices.
