UPDATE: Saturday, October 8, 3 pm: President William Ruto has eulogised former Ainabkoi Member of Parliament William Chepkut as a humble man who strived to change the life of his constituents for the better.
In a statement released by State House, Ruto said that the former lawmaker will be remembered for his dedication in serving as a lawmaker and his humorous contributions in Parliament.
"Mr Chepkut was down-to-earth and a witty politician who served his people with dedication," Ruto stated.
Chepkut collapsed at his house in Nairobi on Saturday, October 8 and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Efforts to resuscitate the legislator proved futile, with doctors pronouncing him dead at a facility in Parklands.
In 2021, Chepkut was hospitalised for two months after he fell inside a city hotel in July 2021.
“I fainted and was rushed to the hospital, where I received treatment and was discharged. I took it lightly and returned home before travelling to Uganda to undertake other duties.
"Around the same time, I suffered two other accidents that totally affected me,” Chepkut narrated.
Chepkut served as the constituency's lawmaker between 2017 to 2022 as an independent candidate.
In 2022, Chepkut, who once served as the late Nichola Biwott's personal assistant, lost to UDA's Samuel Chepkong’a.
The incumbent garnered over 26,000 votes compared to Chepkut13,000 votes.
Since his exit from Parliament, Chepkut maintained a low profile, often commenting on national issues on his official Twitter account.
His last tweet was yesterday, Friday, October 7, where he congratulated Transport CS nominee Kipchumba Murkomen and Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot for their new roles in government.
"God's case is final. Congrats waziri and the new leader of the majority," he tweeted.
