Gunshots rented the air at a local bank located in Nairobi West area after a suspected robber attempted to break into the facility on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 11.

Reports revealed that the knife-wielding attacker was shot dead.

Videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed that the police had arrived at the scene of the incident to repulse the thug who was armed.

The officers first cordoned off the facility and closed the road leading to the popular bank.

"Reports out here of an attempted robbery at a local bank Nairobi West branch. Word about shots having been fired. And police sealing the area.

"Be on the lookout if you're on those shores," cautioned Arnold Maliba.

The robber was reportedly armed with a knife and was shot dead while attempting to grab the cash that had been brought to the branch by the bank's security partner.

Confirming the incident, the bank announced that the branch had been closed as police continue with the investigations into the attempted break in.

"Kindly note that we had a distress incident today morning at our Nairobi West Branch where an armed person attempted to gain access into the banking hall.

"Security agents led by local authorities are currently on site investigating the incident and the branch has been temporarily closed," read the statement in part.

The robbery attempt follows the January 2022 heist at a bank inside the popular Westside Mall in Nakuru County.

The robbers made away with Ksh2.3 million in what has been described as a perfectly executed crime.

The thugs also held all nine employees hostage before ransacking the bank counters and getting away with the funds.
