The Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has issued an update on the viral video of a child with a fork jembe lodged in his head.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 11, KNH confirmed that the toddler was rushed to the theatre, where doctors operated on him.
However, before booking him in, the doctors and medical staff had to stabilize him as he was losing a lot of blood.
"The patient has since been stabilized and is currently undergoing a delicate operation in KNH theatres. We assure you that the child is under the best care," the hospital's communication desk wrote.
KNH explained that doctors could not perform the surgery immediately following complications that arose from the injury.
"The victim had lost a lot of blood, and as a result, the clotting process was not occurring as expected.
"This delayed the surgical procedure as this would have been dangerous to the patient," the medical facility wrote.
The clarification came 24 hours after the child's father complained that the minor was yet to be attended to despite being admitted at KNH.
An x-ray conducted on the patient revealed the fork jembe had penetrated the skull.
Reports alleged that the injury was inflicted by another child whom the victim was playing with.
The parents first rushed him to the Thika Level V Hospital, where medical personnel administered first aid before referring him to Kenyatta Hospital.
A section of Kenyans reached out to the family to offer financial aid after the photos went viral. Others joined it in prayers, wishing the child a successful procedure.
