A young boy rescued by President William Ruto in 2019 pleaded with him to help clear a Ksh58,550 school fee arrears.

Ian Kipchoech, 9, from Bomet County, called upon the President to intervene as his mother was jobless and could not afford to raise the money.

"The problem I have is they have not paid my fees. I am pleading with President William Samoei Ruto to pay my school fees.

"My mum stays at home," the boy requested.

The Grade One pupil also noted that his teachers barred him from returning to school until the deficit is cleared.

His distraught mother also pleaded with Ruto to intervene, lamenting that she was struggling with making ends meet.

"Ian has school fee arrears of Ksh58,550. I am asking him to help us," she added.

In 2019, Ruto fully paid for Kipkoech's delicate and specialised treatment at a city hospital.

Doctors had diagnosed the boy with a spinal defect known as Spina Bifida. This is a birth defect that occurs when the spine and spinal cord don't form properly.

Ruto was also impressed with Kipkoech's beautiful poem at a public event

In the poem, he congratulated Ruto for being courageous enough to face his detractors but still advocating for peace.

Ni mchache wa maneno na mwingi wa vitendo hi kwa hakika ni nehema ya mungu.

Mimi kwa binafsi ninakushukuru kwa kugharamia matibabu yangu sina cha kukupa Mungu akubariki asanteni"

(By the grace of God, he speaks less and acts more. I am grateful for his kind gesture - offsetting my medical bills. May God reward you)," Kipkoech prayed.
