Just three days after taking the reins at Twitter, the world's richest person Elon Musk is seeking to make a little more money.

A report by The Verge on Sunday, October 30, insinuated that plans were in high gear at Twitter to have all verified accounts enrolled on a Ksh2,500 (USD20) monthly subscription service.

The outlet indicated that a team has already been tasked with creating the product and was given a deadline of November 7, 2022.

The verification exercise will be part of Twitter Blue, a service by the company that allows users to opt into a subscription service to unlock more Twitter features.

Initially, Twitter Blue charged Ksh605 per month but will rise to Ksh2,500 after Musk took over.

Before his purchase of Twitter, Musk had hinted that if he took over the social media giant, the verification process would be among the features redressed.

"The whole verification process is being revamped right now," Musk tweeted on the morning of Monday, October 31, confirming the changes.

All individuals who are currently verified on the platform will also be given 90 days to purchase the new package or risk losing their blue badges.

Since the introduction of the blue badge in 2009, there were roughly 360,000 verified accounts by May 2021 according to Vox.

The badge was introduced to show other Twitter users that an account genuinely belongs to the person whose name it's in.

When rolled out, the feature will be the first major change by Musk since taking over the social media giant after a protracted battle with its then management.

Musk closed his purchase of Twitter on Friday, October 28, after purchasing the platform at Ksh5 trillion (USD44 billion).
